What's the deal with small engines no longer listing horsepower?

My riding mower engine is listed in HP and replacements are not. Is there a chart somewhere to translate metric cc to hp? Does anyone understand why they dropped the horsepower numbers? If you're a Canadian please refrain from ripping on the US using inches, I honestly hate that we don't use metric. Learning it doesn't solve the problem. It's the life long usage that makes it easy to use.

They started going away from HP ratings years ago on gas engines and air compressors both because the mower sellers mainly sears was over inflating the HP ratings on engines and they got caught and lost the court battle.

Allot of larger engines now still have HP ratings on them but smaller engines rarely do. All the replacement riding mower engines I am looking at still list HP as well as CC. We have been measuring displacement in CC since the 50s or 60s along side CI.

Lots of engines listed as 20-22HP out there. Way back briggs would sell two short blocks that covered 4-6 engines HP wise. I don't remember the cutoff anymore but you would have one block cover 10-14hp another cover 15-18 and so on. The difference was the carb was a larger carb to get the higher HP. We would often upgrade a customer to a larger carb if they were buying a new carb which was rare because they were expensive then.

I use metric and freedom units. Both have their place for me. I have a hard time visualizing 1500mm vs imperial units. Which even in the UK they often still say miles or inches or feet when referring to distances. I planned on picking up some metric drill bits etc when I was in Greece last year but most of the tool stores had either cheapie junk or bosch.
