As some of you know, Menard's had their Crazy Days Sale this past weekend. Well I came across this dandy deal on a Worx 20V 4 in 1 Cordless Combo Kit # WX947L. It was on sale for $99.99 regularly priced $149.99. The ironic reason for me even considering a WORX tool goes back to an hour earlier. A friend of mine offered me a WORX Switch Drill for $80 new in the factory sealed box. I told him give me a few days to mull over it. By the time my girlfriend and I pulled into Menard's she had done a quick research on it. Normally the Switch Drill sells for somewhere around $129 and $80 is still a bit much to pay for it, or is it? Well it seems that WORX honors its warranty claims and in my mind, that's a thing to consider. There were several reviewers that mentioned the ease of warranty claims. Three year warranty no less.
Fast forward about an hour and there I am considering a tool purchase of a home owner's multi tool and bag. Well I was in no hurry so I went over to the patio furniture and pulled up my browser for more research. It didn't take long to throw caution to the wind and purchase the set.
This is a first impression. I have not actually drilled or cut anything yet. The snake style light is rather nice and much sleeker than the old D cell Snake Light of days long past.
The reciprocating saw is small in my hands but the girlfriend liked it. It has good speed and seems like it would work well for light weight metals and wood. Perhaps even tree branches.
The plunge cut capable 4 1/2" saw will most definitely be a light weight, or in other words, you're gonna need a minute. Again it feels small in my hands.
Lastly the drill. This is one innovative tool that is intriguing to me. It has three basic electronically controlled settings. Screw with Safe Drive , Drill, and Pulse Assist which seems to be cross between a regular drill and a impact drill by literally pulsing the torque output. The Ai Drill (Advanced Intelligence) responds to the load its under. The winning element of this drill is the chuck. Spin it open, insert the bit, and twist the special collar which instantly locks the bit in the chuck. No holding the chuck and twisting it all the way down. This feature alone has the drill at four stars. Unfortunately it's only a 3/8" chuck.
Throw in the carry bag which is ok but not exciting and you have what appears will be a decent home owners set. I'm going to update when I have more to share.
