For those of you that don't know, Home Depot just started Ryobi Days today. Essentially, buy a 2 pack "high performance" 3 AH battery kit for $99 and get a bare tool for free (word is that all tools at or under $89). And they claim there are 50 tools that this covers. I took advantage of this last year and got into the Ryobi line by picking up the jigsaw. Since then I've gotten the high power bench blower, the 1/2" impact wrench, 1/4" impact driver and the hammer drill. I have not been disappointed in any one of these tools and the batteries have done well, lasting for the whole job in every case.
I'm going to take advantage of this again, snacking on the green crack. Actually, I just bought the hammer drill last month, so I'm hoping they will simply let me pay the difference for the battery pack. I'm guessing they will. Or I'm just returning the drill and getting a new one with the battery pack.
Ryobi has expanded their line. Several items that caught my eye are the soldering station and the handheld rotary tool (think Dremel), and a 1 gallon compressor, all powered by their 18v system. I don't need the iron or the rotary tool in a portable version, but if I did those would be especially attractive. Still thinking hard on that compressor. Won't do roofing but for the trim woodwork I typically do, and tire inflating, it's very tempting - it looks like a California Air compressor but battery powered. There's also several PEX crimping tools that I have my eye on, and would be useful for the vintage RF restoration I'm working on.
