Another Harbor Freight parking lot sale is upon us, and that only means one thing: more disappointing shopping!
My safari began in Pontiac, MI, where the first thing I noticed was that the sale proper was confined to a single 6 foot folding table. The sparsely populated table contained no open boxes, no returns, and no deals. It was just a bunch of stuff the store wasn't able to sell at regular price that they knocked a few cents off and called it a clearance.
I did see an open box 9" tabletop bandsaw sitting on the floor near the stockroom entrance for $112, which would be a decent price for a new saw (20% off the retail price). There were also a few new in box 12v Hercules drill kits on an endcap for $6. Further reductions would make it even more enticing.
The most shameful aspect of the sale was the collection of "managers specials".
My next stop was the Harbor Freight store in Walled Lake, MI. Another even more sparsely populated table and another set of "managers special" boxes filled with a lot of items that typically retail for less than the special price. The only thing that really caught my eye was an open box Hercules 20v hammer drill and battery (nothing else) for $88. Might be a worthwhile buy if it can be had for 30% off on Sunday.
Have a few more stops in Metro Detroit while I'm driving around, but I am not expecting anything.
