And that species is, of course, the once mighty Lynxx!
I was at my local for the first time since COVID-19 washed up on the sunny shores of Michigan and I stopped by the lawn and garden section to see the new Atlas products firsthand. They were there, of course, with all the bunting Harbor Freight could bring to bear. I was a bit dismayed when I looked at the display though and noticed a certain color was conspicuously missing.
No vibrant yellow Lynxx products to meet the eye. When I saw the ads for Atlas in January and February, I wondered how it would affect Lynxx. It obviously looks like Atlas was meant to quietly replace the brand. Even the in-store marketing doesn't include Lynxx on their good-better-best spectrum, opting instead for Portland-Bauer-Atlas 40v-Atlas 80v.
I did find a few Lynxx products on an endcap in the store. They weren't on clearance, but they obviously weren't included in the lawn care display. I visited two others near me and found Lynxx products either gone or barely included. Harbor Freight still has Lynxx products online, though it's worth noting that most of the tools are "In store only". This isn't good news, because this shortage wasn't just in my closest store. I suspect it may be widespread.
Bit of a bummer again from HF to pump up a premium brand only to seemingly abandon it, leaving their customers hanging. It wouldn't be so bad if people in the Lynxx battery ecosystem could use their batteries and chargers with the Atlas products, but I also suspect that will not be the case.
