Can't say it's completely surprising, but something in the new Hercules promotional material on the HF website caught my eye. As I scrolled through the 12v and 20v tools (which I'm slightly relieved are gradually finding their ways onto store shelves), the 20v 5.0AH battery jumped out at me.
"Didn't that used to be $40?" I wondered to myself. I remembered there was a recent coupon for the battery, so I checked out hfqpdb.com to see what was in the archive.
An impressive price hike to say the least. It was so significant that HF issued the newly priced battery another item number and quietly discontinued the old one. I suspect that move is just to distract us from the fact that they increased the price by 50% overnight now that they're no longer bundling batteries with tools. And it's not just the photos that are the same. The copy on both product pages is identical, like they just hit Ctrl+a, Ctrl+c, Ctrl+v, and typed "max" randomly in the title. HF's pulling the same scam with the 2.5AH battery too, though that price hike is only a 40% increase.
